The Chained and the Damned: Eightbound

Unchained Fury: Eightbound in Grimdark Style

I’m excited to showcase my Eightbound — painted straight out of the box, without conversions, but fully pushed into a gritty, oppressive Grimdark aesthetic. These models already radiate pure rage and mutation, so the goal was to amplify that energy through the paintwork alone.

Models & Concept

The Eightbound are some of the most visually aggressive models in the World Eaters range: twisted flesh, daemon-fused armor, brutal silhouettes.
Since I didn’t convert them, the focus was entirely on atmosphere, texture, and mood — letting the sculpts do the heavy lifting while the paint brings out their raw, unhinged savagery.

I wanted them to look like creatures halfway between warrior and daemon, fueled by bloodshed and barely contained fury.

Painting Approach

The entire project leans into a dark, textured, and worn Grimdark look, inspired by techniques from the Grimdark Compendium.
Muted colors, controlled grime, oil shading, and rough surface textures help push the Eightbound into a grittier, more grounded space than the clean studio scheme.

Key focuses were:
• Pale, corrupted flesh with bruising and stains
• Blending between organic tissue and armor plates
• Deep shadows and desaturated tones
• Blood effects used sparingly but intentionally
• Darkened metallics with grime and heat discoloration

Even without conversions, the paintwork allows each model to feel unique — scarred, unstable, and dangerous.

Details & Features
• Fully grimdark painting style, no conversions
• Corrupted flesh tones and organic transitions
• Oily metals, dirt, and surface wear
• Deep shadows and muted highlights
• A darker, more brutal take on the Eightbound aesthetic

Why This Project?

The Eightbound are some of my favorite modern sculpts — chaotic, angry, and full of character.
Painting them in a grimdark style was the perfect opportunity to explore the blend of flesh, daemon, and armor, while pushing the overall tone of my World Eaters force even further into that gritty, atmospheric territory I love.
