World Eaters Rising: A Grimdark Conversion Project

A project close to my heart

I’m happy to share something truly special to me: a squad of World Eater Chaos Space Marines from Games Workshop, painted for One Page Rules: Grimdark Future.

Models & Concept

These Chaos Space Marines are built using a mix of modern kits and old Forge World bitz, chosen specifically to give each model more character, aggression, and individuality — perfect for representing the unhinged brutality of the World Eaters.
I wanted them to embody a gritty, oppressive grimdark aesthetic, and what better foundation than the Grimdark Compendium?

Painting Approach

I followed the classic “How to Paint: World Eaters” tutorial from the Grimdark Compendium. It served as my cornerstone — layering, skin tones, weathering, and textured finishes all came together to push the models into that raw, visceral look I was aiming for.

Details & Features
• Heavy use of Forge World resin bitz for added personality
• Mutated skin tones and scarification
• Battle-worn armor with blood-stained accents
• Subtle oil work to enhance depth and grime

Why This Project?

Ever since the original Forge World World Eater upgrade kits were released, I knew I wanted to build a force of these savage loners. The final push came from the Grimdark Compendium’s oil painting tutorials — they sparked the inspiration I needed to finally dive in.
