Dwarf Cleric Concentrating on Spells
Army Painter Color Palette
Ancient Plate Armor: Base with Gun Metal, then apply a heavy wash of Strong Tone. To get that weathered, greenish-bronze tint on the trim, drybrush a mix of Aztec Gold. Finish with a light edge highlight of Shining Silver on the sharpest corners.
The Runed Hammer: Base the stone/metal block in Rough Iron or a dark gray like Mechanic Grey. Use Dark Tone wash to fill the engravings. Lightly drybrush with Plate Mail Metal to make the runes pop.
Dwarven Braid & Beard: Base with Oak Brown, wash with Strong Tone, and drybrush with Dirt Splatter followed by a very light touch of Skeleton Bone at the tips of the braids.
Weathered Parchment/Scroll: Base with Banshee Brown. Use Soft Tone wash to create the aged look, then highlight the edges with Skeleton Bone. For the green lettering/runes, use a fine detail brush with Greenskin.
Glowing Gem : Base with Matt White, then apply Fluorescent Green. Add a tiny dot of Matt White in the upper corner to simulate a light reflection.
Leather Pouches & Horn: Base with Leather Brown, wash with Strong Tone, and highlight with Monster Brown.
The Base: Actually made a mix by raiding the wife's spice cabinet. Used thyme, parsley flakes and basil drifted onto base of White School Glue.
Painting Methods
Over-Brushing (The Hammer/Armor): Instead of a standard drybrush, use an "over-brush" technique—where the brush has slightly more paint than a drybrush—to create that textured, cast-iron look on the hammer face.
Washing for Depth: The deep recesses in the beard and the armor joints are essential. Don't be afraid to let the Strong Tone pool slightly in the deepest cracks to create that high-contrast "pop."
