The Squonk

Here is the Squonk micro bust from short circuit miniatures

This cryptid from Pennsylvania is quite the bundle of nerves. Known for constantly crying because it's ashamed of its appearance. The squonk is even said to dissolve fully into a puddle of tears when threatened or captured.

This paint scheme just sort of happened. I didn't base it on the classic squonk description. Just started adding colors and got something that looks kinda like a crying baby alien, lol.

This was a ton of fun to paint it came together in a few paint sessions in summer of 2025.
This piece went on to win the Gold medal in the Large format category at the 2025 Lavender Brush at Meeple-a-thon.

The Squonk was also fortunate enough to win an award at the Minis as Art Celebration Teaser Challenge held at adepticon 2026. It was a sponsor's choice chosen by non-other than Matt from Baselair. The award was for most relatable self-portrait because Matt said he saw himself in the Squonk, and it moved him enough to choose this little guy for an award. I'm honored to be in this first batch of winners for what looks to be one of the best competitions around.

This piece is a perfect example of how time invested is not a good measurement of quality. This piece has won several awards but i would not have entered it in any competitions if not for my fiancee telling me to, because I thought it wasn't competition-worthy because I didnt paint it for dozens or hundreds of hours.
