I've been enjoying reading the Horus Heresy novels recently, and they inspired me to start a new long-term project - I intend to paint a Character Series model from each of the original Space Marine legions, starting here of course with the 1st legion, where I've painted Marduk Sedras, Dark Angel and Lord of the Twenty-Third Order.
This model pushed me in a few ways - it was the first time I'd really attempted proper free-handing, with the text on the chestplate, writing on the Oath wraps around the sword and on the heraldry, and the checked pattern on the pauldrons, all giving me significant trouble. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with how those came out!
There was also the plinth - I wanted to do something special to make the minis in this project of mine stand out. So I combined a couple of 3D printed base/nameplate options to create this display plinth on which I can show the character's name, legion symbol, and legion name. It required more 3D modelling work than I've attempted before, so I'm very happy with the result!
