Immortal Hulk

This project was a major learning piece designed to reinforce my fundamentals and build repetition while forcing me way out of my comfort zone. It was my first time really painting for contrast. I wanted a tabletop centerpiece that stands out from across the room while keeping the work entirely brush based after the initial prime.

Feature Driven Lighting

Instead of sticking to a fixed light source I used explorative lighting to guide the eye. I prioritized the face for character and the traps to emphasize physical mass. It was all about volume over logic to make sure the sculpt felt aggressive and powerful from every angle on the gaming table.

Comic Style Execution

I relied on bold colors and value contrast to define the materials rather than using physical textures or stippling.
The purple pants use deep shadows and high highlights to sell the fabric look.
The skin was a constant back and forth struggle with yellow greens until I finally hit those pale yellow specular dots to make it pop. The contrast felt harsh during the mid process but it all snapped together once the volumes were fully mapped out.

Final Thoughts

Brush refinement and blending will come with more reps but I feel like I really nailed the volumes and contrast on this one. He has massive presence at three feet away and I am genuinely proud of how I pushed my boundaries.
