The Still Small Voice

Designed by David Grant and distributed for free.

I saw this in my one TC group and instantly loved the concept. Most of Trench Crusade shows people in various stages of ick or death or decay or apocalyptic battle. This one stuck with me because it captured what wasn't in the art yet: calm in the chaos. The Pilgrim here is obviously beaten and battered by a rough time fighting the forces of Hell, but finds time to sit and read their version of The Bible and reflect in peace.

This piece is in 75mm I think so is much larger than I am used to, but allowed for more layering and undertones. I had to make the base out of a coaster I bought at Dollar General, and the model was zenithal Slapchop based. I took part of an old cloth mask I found at my job for the prayer rug, and painted the pattern on it along with uniform grey for weathering.

The clothes are absolution green speed paint followed by drybrushed skeleton bone and sepia tone. The Bible is sepia tone for the paper and gold for the trim with red tone and soft tone for the cover. The cape and tabard are mummified grime, skeleton bone dry brush, and then warm skin shade. Face is opal skin with vermilion crimson for the scars, then an additional mix of banshee Brown and vermilion crimson to add variety to the scar tissue. The hair and eyebrows are moondust yellow followed by warm skin shade.

The helmet and armor are death metal with some gold accents, then dry brush and stippled heavy metal for battle damage. This was washed down with Grimdark Shadow. The rifle is gold and heavy metal along with mummified grime for the sling and warrior skin on the wood stock. This was likewise washed with Grimdark Shadow.

The model was given a final unifying wash of Goon's Grime neat from the bottle.
