Orinthia the Magical Librarian

I made a promise to myself that I would enter a miniature painting competition in 2026. When I saw the Squidmar Open was in January, I decided to enter to assure myself that I wouldn't forget about my goal. I painted this 3D printed bust of Orinthia, the magical librarian, for competition.

The bust was designed by Ernest Nemirovskiy of Italy, more commonly known as Nerikson. The bust was 3D printed in Montreal, Canada by 3DPrintDen on Etsy.

A couple of lessons that I learned from this project are (1) that it is difficult to see the tiny supports on a 3D printed resin model until it has color on it. Next time around I will probably do a base wash of color, then clean and sand the model before getting into painting. And, (2) I learned that Daler Rowny's Fluid Acrylic Ink is a great alternative if there is something funky with the resin and it won't accept paint, including primer. For some reason, the book would not accept paint on the edges.

The following paint colors were used:

NicPro Primer Mars Black
NicPro Primer Grey
Golden Artist Acrylics Burnt Sienna
Golden Artist Acrylics Burnt Umber
Golden Artist Acrylics Cobalt Turquoise
Golden Artist Acrylics Mars Black
Golden Artist Acrylics Napthol Red Light
Golden Artist Acrylics Payne's Gray
Golden Artist Acrylics Primary Cyan
Golden Artist Acrylics Titanium White
Golden Artist Acrylics Yellow Ochre
Golden Artist Acrylics Zinc White
Pro Acryl Tan Flesh
Utrecht Artists' Acrylic Neutral Grey
Citadel Colour Base Bathasar Gold
Citadel Colour Base Iron Hands Steel
Citadel Colour Shade Agrax Earthshade
Citadel Colour Shade Nuln Oil
Citadel Colour Shade Soulblight Grey

The bronze effect that I created on the base was a blend of Burnt Sienna + Yellow Ochre + Cobalt Turquoise.
