Apocalypse
My entry for this year's Path of the Worthy painting competition at Adepticon 2025. I was happily awarded a Gold medal for my efforts. On this project, I wanted to push my use of value. Choosing to reduce the depth of shadow on the overall base in order to make the main subject feel heavier, fitting for Apocalypse. Every project is a chance to try something new and this had plenty of learning moments. Thanks!

Amazing work Sam! I assume the sphinx in the background was freehanded? The X-men cartoon version of Apocalypse has a fair bit more purple than blue. What made you decide to go heavy blue?

Thanks, man! I couldn't resist a freehanded backdrop. With the comic characters, I see them as a sort of historical piece and try to base them on the art. Luckily there is some variations in characters with multiple depictions. This one is out there :) Cheers!
