The Long Rest

Thy journey begins

The lyrics are from my favorite band MANOWAR and their song 'Hymn of the Immortal Warriors'. Now some of you might be reading this and wondering why I used some lyrics from a band. Well it has to do with what day it is (or was, if you're reading this tomorrow).

Today (was) memorial day and a lot of us were out grilling having fun and enjoying the day off. I wasn't that lucky I was busy (in a good way) working and directing things for the local base I'm stationed at for families coming on to see the graves of the fallen.

Once I had finished that detail I thought about the model that Reaper Miniatures released called 'Long Rest' that I had purchased. When got home I started to take paint to the model and worked on her. I believe we all need a rest, but some of us eventually take the long rest. Memorial Day is a day where we remember the fallen, those who finally take that Long Rest after fighting for the Freedom's we all enjoy today. I took special time and care to make sure the colors were just right on this resting warrior. I wanted it to embody a warrior that was taking a moment to contemplate, cleaning the weapons they used and keeping warm by a fire, and the night sky at their back.

So today, or tomorrow when you think back on today, remember the Fallen, those Veterans who sacrifice their lives to keep us all safe and protected. Honor those family members that serve and thank them when you can. Life is short, celebrate them and make some good memories and remember, it gets better.
