The Butcher’s Veteran: Legion Lord Conversion
byOHHansOn
Lord of the Red Path: World Eaters Legion Champion
Here is the general of my World Eaters force — a converted Legion Champion built to embody everything the XIIth Legion stands for: fury, dominance, and absolute brutality on the battlefield.
**Models & Concept✱
The core of this model is the imposing Obsidius Mallex body from the Blackstone Fortress Warhammer Quest box.
His stance, armor mass and commanding presence made him the perfect foundation for a World Eaters lord.
To reinforce his veteran, ancient-warrior aesthetic, I added:
• A classic metal Chaos Lord backpack, giving him that old-school baroque silhouette
• A brutal axe from my collection — so old I can’t even remember where it originally came from
• A veteran head from deep in the bits box, chosen specifically to give him a scarred, battle-hardened expression
The result is a Champion who feels ancient, ruthless, and utterly loyal to the Butcher’s Nails — a leader shaped by centuries of slaughter.
Painting Approach
The model was painted in my established grimdark World Eaters scheme: textured whites, corrupted reds, darkened metals, and deep oil shadows.
Given his status, I pushed the details further:
• Heavy weathering across armor plates
• Deep grime and battle scars
• Subtle dark blood effects on the axe
• Enhanced contrasts to make him stand out from rank-and-file troops
He should look like someone who hasn’t just survived a thousand battles — but won them.
**Details & Features✱
• Converted from the Blackstone Fortress Obsidius Mallex miniature
• Classic metal Chaos Lord backpack
• Vintage axe and head from the bits collection
• Heavy grimdark texture work to emphasize age and authority
• A real centerpiece model for the army
Why This Project?
Every army needs a leader with character — someone who carries the weight of the legion’s history on their armor.
This Lord Champion brings together modern sculpts, classic metal parts, and decades-old bits into one unified, brutal centerpiece.
He perfectly represents the spirit of the XIIth: relentless, scarred, and always advancing toward the next kill.
