2nd Edition Dark Angels Azrael

Hello all and happy Thursday! Time to present my final character mini from my Dark Angels display... So say hello to the OG chapter master himself, Azrael!

Odd for me to say, but overall I was and am very happy with how he turned out. He was the first of the three characters I painted up for the display. I honestly havent painted one of these old bad lads since his debut in the good ol 90s when I was a teenaged grumpy wolf! I remember when GW dropped this old bad lad, I thought he was one of the coolest minis Id ever seen! Fun thing is, I still have the original I did so long ago (see final pic in this post). One interesting little tidbit is, I bought this Azrael with his Middlehammer metal banner. That thing was HUGE! Like, bigger than Azrael himself big! The detail wasnt well defined on it and it kinda bugged me, so I started poking around for and looking at pics of the current day Primaris version of the banner. Decided to snag one off ebay and see if it would fit. Low and behold it was perfectly sized for this version of Azrael! Took a little customizing work with a file and hand drill to make work, but its absolutely spot on for his scale, and the detail on it the banner is super crisp and sharp. Also, the lettering is recessed which made it much easier to paint versus the rather soft raised text on the metal banner.

As of right now, Im still working on that custom sculpted 2nd edition Lion el Jonson I mentioned last week. The mini itself is done, just working on his banner! I think a lot of people are gonna get a kick out of him and hes going to be my entry for MPO this month! Ill be posting my custom Lion soon!
