A little about this piece.

Whenever I choose a project, it’s usually because I want to improve a specific skill. Sometimes that’s values, sometimes NMM, sometimes colour or atmosphere. Every few months I try to combine everything I’ve learned into a single piece and push myself a little further.

This Votann was that project.

There were definitely moments where I questioned the direction, repainted sections, and struggled to make the vision work. There are still things I can improve on, but that’s part of the journey.

What I’m most proud of is that this piece taught me a lot about restraint, atmosphere, colour harmony, and trusting the process. It’s not perfect, but it represents a genuine step forward for me as a painter.

Now it’s time to take those lessons into the next project.
