Usgrit Dragonslayer

Usgrit has been one of the most meaningful pieces I have worked on so far. When I started this project, I was at a point in my painting journey where I really wanted to push myself. I wanted to grow my confidence, trust my instincts, and see if I could bring a character to life in a way that felt honest to my style.
From the beginning, I knew I wanted Usgrit to feel alive. Not just painted well, but full of personality. I wanted him to look like a dwarf who has lived through fire, war, and legend. As I worked through each part of the bust, I found myself becoming more intentional with every decision. The beard, the armor, the hammer, the expression, all of it became a chance to explore who this character was.
What stood out to me during this project was how much I grew while painting him. I learned to slow down and let the paint do the work. I learned to trust the choices I was making instead of second guessing everything. I learned how much I enjoy telling a story through color and texture. This project helped me see my own style starting to take shape in a real way.
Finishing Usgrit feels like a turning point for me. He represents where I am right now as a painter. Still learning, still experimenting, but finally starting to see my own voice come through. I am proud of how he turned out. Not because he is perfect, but because he shows how far I have come and how excited I am to keep growing.
