Eilidh of the Fallen Leaves

My take on the wonderful "Eilidh" sculpt by Hex Figures.

This sculpt has always spoken to me with how much freedom there is left to the painter to really convey emotion, along with the contrast between a sweet child and her demonic heritage.

More than anything, I wanted my interpretation to convey a sense of longing and melancholy, along with perhaps hope for the future.

My concept was a demonic child who wishes her world (and perhaps even herself) were different, and starting to realize that she can be more than what the world tries to tell her she has to be. To that end I chose to have her looking off to a horizon, but one off in the shadows, where she's less certain of what it contains, and turning away from a path she can see clearly.

I was also inspired by the color patllette of Erik Swinson's Llolth, who has an almost incongruous sense of tenderness in spite of her actions, which struck me as a perfect inspirational starting point.

I really wanted to practice a few key things with this piece and learn some new skills:
Freehand & Embroidery
Chromatic white
General ambient bounce lighting
Contrasting textures

I was also trying to be much more aware of cleanliness and precision in my painting throughout.

While there were some setbacks throughout this project (such as dropping and breaking it and having to order and paint a replacement in 2 weeks, I'm quite pleased with the end result.
