Lambert of the Silver Tower

This bust of Lambert by Zabaart since 11/2024 holds a special meaning for me. I received it at a workshop led by Lukáš Žaba, where I had the opportunity to experiment with painting skin using oil paints. I think the result turned out quite well, so I was excited to continue painting the rest of the bust at home.
Since I wanted to keep working with oils, I laid down the base tones for the beard and aventail, planning to refine them later. However, when it came to creating fine textures, I wasn’t quite sure how to achieve them with oils on a bust. So, I left those areas as they were and decided to finish them with acrylics instead.
Drying oils can be unpredictable. Even after a week, the surfaces were still wet, so in the meantime, I started working on the helmet, visor, and shield. After three weeks, the oil-painted areas were finally dry enough, so I sealed them with a matte varnish and, once cured, refined them with acrylics.
It was a valuable experience, and in the end, I’m satisfied with the result. Some parts were quite challenging, but that’s what makes painting engaging. I hope you like the final piece.
