Cthulhu

Painting Cthulhu from Death May Die is less about creativity and more about surviving the encounter. I kept the palette faithful—sickly greens, bruised purples, and that eerie glow that says “your sanity was never yours to begin with.” The sculpt does most of the storytelling; I just made sure the transitions were smooth, the textures popped, and the tentacles looked like they’ve ruined civilizations. The base is fully custom—layered and textured to suggest he’s rising from the depths, dragging ancient nightmares up with him. Big model, big presence, and a satisfying descent into madness—one brushstroke at a time. Painting this involved a lot of different techniques. I started out with speedpaints to set the base colors, I used drybrushing over the top to add lighter tones and more dramatic textures and then I used hand-done highlights to finish this one off.
