Castaway
my second entry for Roman Lappat's Beyond your Imagination -Astronaut challenge 2025 competition.
I drew inspiration from the series Love, Death & Robots (Netflix) and tried to bring a specific scene to miniature form. The story: stranded, isolated, fighting for survival.
This project was a challenge for me in two directions. First, storytelling through composition and details, but also working with a painted backdrop. I'm just starting with backgrounds and it's challenging for me to create a backdrop that properly complements the scene and doesn't feel distracting. I'm still finding my way with it.
Always open to constructive feedback - especially regarding the backdrop!

Love the storytelling element. The weathering on the carted space voyager helps to deliver the message.
the backdrop is beautiful but it is a little overpowering to me in the image. Perhaps putting a few of those trees/rock formations in the foreground with the minis could help with the imposing planet
