Death of the 1st Company

The Ultramarines’ 1st Company died to the last defending the northern polar fortress of Macragge during the First Tyrannic War. Their stand became one of the Chapter’s most tragic legends.

The Tyranids of Hive Fleet Behemoth breached Macragge’s orbital defences and hurled endless swarms toward the planet’s polar fortresses—immense bastions carved into the ice fields of the northern hemisphere. These fortresses were the final fallback point of Marneus Calgar’s defence plan.

Inside the northern fortress, Captain Saul Invictus and the entire 1st Company Terminator elite held the line against billions of Tyranid organisms. Cut off from reinforcement and surrounded in sub‑zero blizzards, they fought room by room, corridor by corridor, until ammunition, power reserves, and finally lives were spent. None survived.
