Blade In The Dark Diorama

Grime.time.painting on Instagram runs an event called An Army From One, where every entrant gets the same space marine mini and can do whatever they want with it, so in the end there's a global army of a single miniature.

This was my entry for it. To make a diorama of a cultist walking through an industrial corridor, with that marine lurking in the shadows above, waiting to drop for the kill.

For my final photo I did it Toy Photography style, with a fog machine, additional coloured lights, and digital editing to make it look more like a real location by editing out the edges of the diorama.

The painting of the scene was mostly stippling and lazy drybrushing of various reds and blue-greys, only going in with a detail brush to highlight specific edges or fuzz out some sharper lines.

The finishing bit is using Green Stuff World's Maxx Darth Black paint on a lot of the upper areas that were just reflecting far too much light for my photos. It's why the above area is nearly completely black, including parts of the marine. This stuff, like all the super-black paints, dries with a very noticeable texture. But it's perfect for photos like mine.
