Bit o Terrain

I got the City of Ash box I guess because I was excited for these terrain pieces. Here's one of those big structure pieces. It's a bit smaller than I expected, I guess it works well for still offering line of sight. Hero minis fit on that top level just fine, probably not a ten-man unit though. Anyways, I did some new experiments on both the painting and photography side. Breaking it down for convenience.

Photography:
Getting a better hang of using focus stacking, got an umbrella recently so I decided to incorporate some flash as my key light for these shots. I balanced this using some cool temperature LED lights overhead with a small led (set to a warm temp) to get that under glow kind of effect in some of the shots (I wish I was saavy enough to OSL paint that lol, looks neat though). Just used a 56mm lens for all the shots on this one. I also used for matte foam boards this time for my backdrop and controlling some of the light spill. Piece of hardboard was used for the base-tile area and the piece was sat up on cork bits (last photo). I've got a plan to make that a bit more spiffy soon.

Painting:
Did a lot more playing with the 1step set on this project. Went all over the piece with a few different colors from the set to get a few different base coat tones. Warm brown and dark green brown for the wood bits. Graphite grey for the metals. I saw a video the other day that mentioned PA metallics not behaving as one might expect and could relatively easily be glazed with. After I realized I can kinda glaze now from the gem on the cannon project I wanted to try that for the metals. For building up layers on the other areas I got my 1step base color out again and then progressively mixed in my highlight (experiments here were only with PA paints). I loved how easily I could both get an appropriate color quickly but also an effective glaze consistency that was easy to apply. I might have to also thank these brushes though; I'm still just using the synthetics but these Gilded Goblin brushes are nuts. I try to clean them meticulously because I love them so much (and I'm cheap lol). I can hear the shill in my voice gushing about them for two projects, but I guess it's part of the exploration of the hobby for me.

Wow! you made it this far you're a scrolling champ/or dedicated reader. Either way I appreciate you. Hope yall enjoy, cheers!
