Anarchist of Onslaught

This piece was painted over the summer of 2022. It was my first project for an in-person competition, so I figured it would be a great first post here on Baselair! My goal with this was to push comfortable concepts outside of the bounds of where I was comfortable with them. I loved painting skin, non-metallic metal, and object source lighting, but I was still early in my journey of learning them. So I wanted to use this piece to push my ability and understanding in each of these areas.

It was a lot of work, and halfway through I nearly gave up. It had been a tough year personally, and this was my re-entry into display painting, after stepping away and into army painting for a year. In another life, I might’ve taken that other fork in the road. But I'm so glad that with the support of so many people in my community, I kept pushing through to the end, and on to more competition displays. I had caught the bug!

While this was initially painted for Resin Beast 2023 (where it earned a Bronze medal in the Small Figure category), I first brought it to Capital Palette at NOVA Open 2022 (my first in-person competition), where it earned a Silver medal in the Small Single Figure category in the Journeyman division! Both were very different, but very rewarding experiences, and shaped my approach to competitions ever since!
