Aethon Shaan

Originally intended to be part of a 40k Unit category entry at Golden Demon SPIEL 2026, I pivoted to paint Aethon Shaan alone on a separate 'last minute' basing plinth to enter him in 40k Single instead, because I realized (shamefully late), that the full squad piece would take way more time than I could possible free up in before the comp in October.

I managed to paint everything on him to a satisfactory level - more refinement could've always been added - and feel like I got quite lucky to land on a nice quality base, and very cool looking fabric banners. Lucky, because both of those parts of the project ended up not being painted until the very last sessions and, had they gone badly, would have had to just stay that way.

In the end I took him to not just the primary competition it's intended for, Golden Demon, but also to SMC in the netherlands, where I entered Gaming Figures Masters. I actually won a bronze medal in that latter category with Shaan, which is quite the huge win in my book, and due to the absolutely insane level of compentition at GD, especially the 40k single category, he got awarded a notable pin by the GW judging team supported by Erik Swinson. Both quite the successes in my book and considering the contexts, I am well happy!

Stunning work! Congrats on the bronze at SMC. I really love the lightening on the left claw.
