Space Wolves Ulrik Slayer
Presenting my Ulrik Slayer! He officially took me a month to paint! Was so happy when I finished him up! He was painted initially to enter he Crux Terminatus FB competition. Unfortunately due to me doing some freelance work for the group, I was not allowed to place (incase of "favoritism"). I wound up entering him in LVOs painting competition hosted by Verkos Vault and took not only a bronze coin, but also an intent to buy coin from the museum.
I wasnt 100% happy with him at all, but arent we all our worst critics. Lots of things I learned from him... But any good project thats worth its while always teaches you new thing!!! If it doesnt teach you something, it wasnt a challenge.
I wound up having to build 2 plinths for him! Unfortunately, the first plinth was too large according to LVO rules. I was made aware of this via some folks on Facebook and Reddit. I went thru a found the rules PDF and read thru them. Come to find out, max width of a plinth for the category that Im entering was two inches (original was three inches), soooooo I wound up having to physically build a new one! The first plinth was purchased from my local and it was routed out of wood. THANKFULLY, the rules have been revised for LVO this October and I can use 3" plinths again (which are something I can buy pre-routed out of wood from my local shop).
I hand built this plinth from scratch using balsa wood, an xacto, ruler, pencil, glue and a whole lotta patience! Managed to knock it out over a period of three days and finished up just in time to enter him at LVO that following Friday!
